GTA 6 is the most hyped game of all time following the release of GTA 5 by Rockstar Games. There have been many questions about Grand Theft Auto 6, and some fans are seriously concerned about the gameplay and the platforms it will be released on. Many are wondering if this game will be available on devices like the Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, Xbox Series S, and Xbox One.
While there are many gamers who play on consoles, an equal number play on PC. These players are seriously concerned about whether GTA 6 will feature cross-platform support because they want to continue their game progress across different platforms. Since previous GTA titles like GTA 5 and GTA 4 never featured cross-platform play, it’s likely that GTA 6 may also not support cross-platform functionality.
GTA 6 Cross-platform Adoption
Looking at the history of previous GTA titles and other games developed by Rockstar Games, none have featured cross-platform components in multiplayer modes like GTA Online and Red Dead Online. Therefore, the chances of the upcoming GTA title, GTA 6, including cross-platform support are slim.
From a technical perspective, GTA 6 likely won't support cross-platform play in multiplayer mode because each console has its own ecosystem and operates within its own environment. If cross-platform play were supported, it could introduce security problems, and no console company would want to take that risk.
It’s important to note that when GTA Online was released, it never supported cross-platform play due to the console ecosystems and limitations. Because of this, Rockstar Games never implemented this feature online.
Conclusion
Implementing a cross-platform system in games isn’t a new concept. It has already been successfully done by games like Fortnite and Roblox, which expanded their game ecosystems significantly. So, why hasn’t Rockstar Games implemented this in their titles? The fact is, GTA is a vast game with around 100,000 daily players. If they were to introduce this feature, it could get messy security might be breached, and hacking issues could increase, which are very difficult to manage at this scale.
