The most awaited game of all time, Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), has been officially announced for release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox Series X|S, set for Fall 2025. The release won't be affected by the actors' union SAG-AFTRA, as confirmed by the CEO of Take-Two Interactive, Strauss Zelnick. In case you missed the story, you can read it here.
Thoughts from a Former Rockstar Animator
According to former Rockstar Games animator Mike York who worked in Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto 5, games developed by Rockstar are mostly delayed for PC due to two main goals they are focusing on.
They mainly focus on money and what sells first, while for PC, a lot of details need to be worked on, which takes time to make it good. A perfect example is the GTA 5 release date, which was initially set for April but was released in September.
PC version of GTA is always better than the console version
Every game released by Rockstar North has been better optimized for the PC than for the console version. Console versions have hardware limitations, which prevent the same gaming experience as the PC version.
Although there are some downsides to the PC version, piracy is too easy on the PC, which means they won't be able to earn good money before the game is released, definitely harming their hard work in a second.
"One of the main things I want to touch on is that the reason why a PC port comes later and not the first thing that comes out is because they want to prioritize what sells," -- Mike York
Moreover, York also shared his thoughts, saying that in GTA 6, there are more NPCs than you can imagine, which can create many bugs. They have to monitor and fix these bugs constantly, which is a pretty tough job. For the PC version, they have to guarantee optimal performance for a better experience and avoid potential performance issues.
Conclusion
Even though the release date for the GTA 6 PC version is delayed, there are ways to play it on PC and mobile phones with cloud gaming services like Xbox Cloud Gaming, but you need to own consoles (PlayStation 4 and Xbox Series X|S). For mobile devices, you can use emulators too. It's better to wait for a better gaming experience on the PC. After all, this is being developed by Rockstar Games.
