The new game in the Mafia franchise is set in Sicily during the early 1900s, taking the series back to its roots by exploring the early days of the mob and how it was formed. 2K Games and Hangar 13 describe the game as “a gritty mob story set in the brutal underworld of 1900s Sicily,” titled Mafia: The Old Country.
Mafia: The Old Country is set to release in 2025 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. While the short teaser trailer that premiered at Gamescom didn't reveal much, 2K promises more details will come in December 2024. It's likely that the game, along with a new trailer, will be showcased at this year's Game Awards.

As reported in 2022, the game is a sort of prequel and has been in development at Hangar 13 for a while. The studio has switched from its own engine, used in Mafia 3 and Mafia: Definitive Edition, to Unreal Engine. While in development, the game was codenamed “Nero.” Hangar 13 has faced challenges in recent years, including layoffs and the cancellation of several projects, but Mafia: The Old Country seems to be a fresh start.
