GTA San Andreas VR Put on Hold Indefinitely by Meta

"Grand Theft Auto 6 is overshadowing other Rockstar titles due to its high anticipation. Meta's GTA: San Andreas VR project is on indefinite hold, influenced by financial losses in Meta's Reality Labs division. Future development may resume after GTA 6."

GTA 6 San Andreas VR on Hold

Grand Theft Auto 6 has been all over the internet, but most other Rockstar Games are now overshadowed due to the massive anticipation for this video game. Additionally, Rockstar Games has not provided any information on GTA 6, leading to many groups and forums focused on GTA 6 theories, which has caused people to forget about other GTA and Rockstar titles.

GTA San Andreas VR Announcement

Facebook Meta, known for making the Oculus Quest VR, has been working hard to make VR games revolutionary and to establish this technology as the future of gaming. That's why they are constantly creating different immersive video games like Beat Saber,VR Boxing, and AAA games like Hubris, Espire 2, Arizona Sunshine 2, as well as Arashi: Castles of Sin and Sniper Elite 2.

Similarly, at the 2021 Facebook Connect press meeting, it was announced that a remake of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas would be in development. However, no screenshots or footage of the game were shown or provided, leaving gamers hopeful that this GTA title is still in development.

Previously, Meta collaborated with Armature Studio and Capcom to bring Resident Evil 4 to Oculus Quest. Additionally, Rockstar worked with them to bring the famous investigation game L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files. These previous projects raised high hopes for GTA San Andreas VR.

Status of the GTA San Andreas VR Project

Meta has officially confirmed that the project has been put "on hold indefinitely," as stated by a Meta spokesperson in an email to IGN.

The delay comes as Meta's Reality Labs division, which focuses on VR, reported significant financial losses, with $16 billion lost in 2023 alone. This financial strain has led Meta to prioritize other projects and reassess their VR strategies, impacting their planned game developments.

Conclusion

Basically, in the interview, they mentioned that the project is simply delayed and might be released eventually. Rockstar Games definitely wants their game to be enjoyable in VR, and given that Rockstar is known for being a revolutionary game studio that changes the industry, it is likely that after GTA 6, they will work on GTA: San Andreas VR in the future.
