Agent: The Rockstar Game That Never Came

"Rockstar’s "Agent," a Cold War-era spy game, was planned for PS3 but never released. Set in the 1970s with a James Bond vibe, it featured diverse locations and a unique concept. Development stalled as the team shifted focus to "GTA IV," leaving "Agent" unfinished and unfulfilled."

Rockstar Games Agent

There are lots of rumors and leaks about Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) circulating all over the internet. Many Rockstar fans are eagerly trying to get news and information about GTA 6, but there hasn't been any official news or information since the release of the first GTA 6 trailer.

Today, we're going to talk about a game that was never released and remains unfinished business for Rockstar North. So, what’s the game? It's Rockstar Games' Agent. Agent was a game exclusively planned for the PS3, set in the 1970s during the Cold War, focusing on espionage, counter-intelligence, and political assassinations.

"I would love for Rockstar to open up about development of the trilogy themselves, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen anytime soon. "Maybe I'll try again in a decade or two." -- Obbe Vermeij

Agent: The Inside Story of What Really Happened

After the release of "GTA San Andreas", Rockstar North was interested in creating a completely new type of video game, different from the GTA titles. "Agent" is a Rockstar game inspired by a James Bond-style concept, and it was developed by Rockstar San Diego. They even developed a demo for this game, which had a James Bond vibe, similar to the (Hitman) series.

The game was planned to be a straightforward adventure set in different places, like a French Mediterranean city, a Swiss ski resort, Cairo, and a big final battle in space. It was designed to have a classic James Bond feel.

After a year, progress on "Agent" was slow. The team tried to simplify the game, but eventually had to focus on "GTA IV" instead. The project was passed to another Rockstar team, but it ultimately didn't go anywhere.

Conclusion

Although the game was not properly developed, its concept was ahead of its time because the gameplay was unique, and spy-themed games were not very popular back then. However, Rockstar was serious about it. Since it was developed by Rockstar Games, the story would likely have been excellent.
